What is Pinterest?
You’ve heard the buzz around Pinterest and how addictive it can be; take it from me, after hours and hours…and hours of browsing on Pinterest, I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I’m now a full blown Pinner.
So ‘What is Pinterest?’ you ask. Pinterest (a clever play off the words “pin” and “interest”) is a platform for visual inspiration boards where you can create themed boards to “pin” relevant images collected from the web. Others can then follow you and like, comment, or re-pin your pins to their own aptly named boards such as “Cupcakes I Should Bake” or “Baking Inspirations”. If you’re a Twitter or Facebook user, you can link your Pinterest account to both so that your pins are automatically shared on these sites. Personally, I opt to selectively share pins on Twitter or Facebook so my followers’ feeds aren’t bogged down with my Pinterest updates.
What’s so great about Pinterest? As a user, it’s a great way to get inspired through visual ideas, organize the images on virtual boards, and then share these with your followers who have common interests. For advertisers looking for increased interaction with their brands via comments and sharing, it’s an effective outlet to promote products in a visual way.
Pinterest is what everyone’s talking about and it’s time to jump on “board”.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to pinning. Follow me!
